Questions, answered
Everything people usually ask before they buy.
Getting started
Can I use ScreenVerb without AI?
Yes. Capture, saving and history work on their own. Pro and Max include the full editor, scrolling capture and share links. AI actions are there when you want them.
Can it replace the built-in macOS screenshot tool?
Yes. Set your own shortcuts, capture windows, regions or scrolling pages, and save as PNG, JPEG, WebP or HEIC to the folder and file name you choose.
Do I need an API key?
No. Pro and Universal include 100 ScreenVerb Cloud requests per month; Cloud subscriptions include 2,000. You can also use your own key from OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, Groq, OpenRouter, or a local Ollama model.
Which devices are supported?
Macs on macOS 14 Sonoma or later, Apple Silicon only, Intel support coming soon. iPhone and iPad on iOS 17 or later.
How does auto-insert work?
When the answer is ready, ScreenVerb switches back to the app you were in, pastes with ⌘V, and restores your previous clipboard. macOS asks for Accessibility permission once to allow this.
Can I write my own actions?
Yes. On Pro and Max you can add your own prompts to keys 1 to 9, and pull in on-device OCR text as a template variable.
iPhone and iPad
What does the iPhone app do?
Import screenshots from Photos or the share sheet, edit them with frames, backgrounds, blur, arrows and counters, run AI actions like extract text and translate, and organize everything with tags and search.
Does my library sync between Mac and iPhone?
Yes. Screenshots you keep in ScreenVerb Cloud show up on every device you sign in to.
Pricing and purchases
How is iOS Pro priced?
iOS Pro is an auto-renewing $19/year App Store subscription. You can also buy Universal for $39 once, which includes Mac, iPhone, and iPad access plus one year of updates. Universal Pro is also available through the App Store for $39/year. Max includes Mac and iOS Pro for $9/month or $84/year on the web, or $10/month or $96/year through the App Store.
Is Mac or Universal a one-time payment?
Yes. Mac is $29 once and Universal is $39 once. Both include lifetime app access and one year of updates. After that, updates can be renewed for $9/year on Mac or $19/year on Universal; update coverage renews annually and can be canceled.
How do I unlock Pro after buying?
Mac Pro and Universal Pro can be bought without a ScreenVerb account. Polar emails the receipt, and ScreenVerb emails the license key. Activate that key in the Mac app for local Pro. Max, the dashboard, and iOS Universal access need you to claim the purchase email with Forgot Password or Google/Apple, then sign in.
Can I cancel Max?
Yes, anytime from your Polar account.
Privacy
Do my screenshots leave my Mac?
With your own key, screenshots go straight from your Mac to the provider you picked and never pass through ScreenVerb servers. With Ollama nothing leaves your Mac at all. Screenshots are only uploaded to ScreenVerb when you share or sync one.
Where are my API keys stored?
In the macOS Keychain, and nowhere else.
